Interview with Danny Rasmussen

Danny RasmussenGet to know a new rising singer/songwriter from the Faroe Islands.

CL: Danny, how did you find your way to music?

Danny: People start to play music at a very young age here, there aren't too many choices. You either choose sports or music. I'm a late bloomer myself having been through the sports "factory", and found a certain urge to play and write music at the age of 14. But those feelings have lied dorment before that, it was only until then I came out of my shell.

CL: Why did you wait until your best friend and drummer convinced you to release “Luna” and by the way what does it mean to you?

Danny: It's a funny story actually, because I did have these songs lying around for a couple of years, but never managed or dared to go public with them. I think the reason for this was mainly due to my lack of self confidence and belief. But Rúni always believed in me and encouraged me to start going with this project. He is an experienced drummer who has played numerous concerts etc, and I dunno, maybe I just needed that final push. Being so experienced that he is, it means alot when you're battling with yourself to overcome the lack of confidence that I've dealt with. But I needed time and he's just always been right behind me all the way.

Luna to me means change, attraction, mystery, love and warmth. The name and meaning displays my music well I think. While looking at the cover and listening to the songs, it all makes sense. It's hard to explain, but the feeling that it gives me, and hopefully those who listen is a sense of hope and loneliness combined, while still being able to lay back and dream away. Sounds very corny I know, but that's what it feels and means to me.

CL: Your new song “Longing” from the album deals with an old man looking in the sky and dreaming of his lost love. When I heard that song I closed my eyes and a lot of pictures arised in my imagination. Who is that man?
 Danny Rasmussen on CultureLoad
Danny: That man can be anyone. He's universal, by saying that I mean he is just like me and you, he's older having lived his life, but looking back at the old days and longing for the past and the love that he lost. How often haven't we gazed at the sky on a beautiful winter or summer night while looking back at things we could have done, or people we have loved or just looking back at old days with a smile? He represents all of us I think, he represents the longing when losing someone, he represents that feeling of hope, despair and love that lies within us all.

CL: Is that wonderful warm guitar sound characteristic for your style of making music? How would you describe it?

Danny: My guitar is my best friend. All the music that I write and play as well as my feelings go through my guitar. It's just my style but others may not agree. Difficult to describe but I'm very concious about how my music should sound like and what feel it should have. And my choice of guitar is a Gibson Hummingbird, and it provides me with the depth and warmth I need.

CL:Man Landed On The Moon” also from your album let us know that it is possible to reach our aims no matter what they are. What are yours?

Danny: Man landed tells us to trust and believe in ourselves. Don't listen to what other people say or achieve, if you really want to achieve something yourself, then go for it! My aim is to try and live life to fullest and try to pursuit my dreams. And try to be the best father I can for my unborn child.

CL: Thank you very much for the interview!
